It’s now 10 years since I got into filming.
Of course the date I used (July 9th 2016) wasn’t the first time I’d filmed. But save for a couple of ad hoc days, and some stuff I’d helped an ex-wife with, this was the starting point for me.
I often joke that, somewhat tired by the “I wish that was me!” comments guys made on posts, I set out to find the answer “How do I make it me?” and the rest is history. I obviously take it a little bit more seriously than that level of petty.
I guess what I learned in those first six months is, particularly in terms of fetish (particularly Femdom) there are four main types of guys in films, and a lesser fifth. Though two you could argue to be the same.
1) Someone known to the Domme
Boyfriend, friend, neighbour, sub, so on.
2) The producer, or one of the production team
Particularly true in scenarios where a studio often uses the same guy(s) or where it is predominantly F/F with occasional male participation
3) Someone who has paid to be there
The generic “film sub”
Although in some scenarios it may be they haven’t contributed financially, but are unpaid.
4) A creator
This is the one that could be the same as (2). Though there are differences between creator and producer.
5) The paid performer
The golden ticket, aye? The thing most guys fantasies about – turning up, doing their fetishes with someone super hot AND getting paid for it
It is, however, extremely rare. Certainly, it’s not impossible it could happen to you reading right now, but if you’ve no portfolio, no experience, no following it’s less likely.
I have done shoots where I have been paid and… it’s different.
So, like. For someone new you can forget about (5) and probably forget about (4). Possibly (2) is possible but again if you’ve no real portfolio you’re going in quite limited – no one is going to hire you as videographer, editor, tea boy, etc without good reason. However, you could take up a producer role and hire others…
In the Beginning…
So yep. My July 9th 2016 role was as a film sub. This isn’t one I paid to be in – but… The day was split into two sessions, 10-3 and 3-8. Subs in the 10-3 session were supposed to leave at/by 3. Some didn’t. That’s another story.
Anyhow… I got there and there were a few guys there and I was going to be put in a scene. Discussions on likes, limits, etc. Feet… obviously. OK, a foot domination scene had already been done in the morning session and they didn’t want to do much more of it. OK, watersports, nope – one had been promised to one of the guys who was supposed to go at 3pm, and when the ladies really needed to go they were going to do it with him and that was that for the day. Pegging? Maybe? No, ahem, an anal scene had been attempted that morning with a guy who’d made no attempt of cleaning and it was… well… unusable and had made one of the ladies physically sick – so no more anal.
So I ended up doing a heavy whipping/flogging/caning scene. Ouch.  I then had a rest while other scenes were shot, and did a CBT scene with the other lady. Although advertised til 8, ahem, the ladies had other commitments so the day wrapped up around 6pm. Even if they didn’t, it’d still been an 8 hour day which is a lot.  So half way across the country for two scenes in a 3 hour window and not really any of my favourites.
This isn’t actually me moaning. It was an introduction to the realities and, actually, yeah. If I wanted to be certain of doing my favourites then that is less likely for someone who is unknown on part of something they hadn’t paid towards.
Mind, I have gone on to be pegged by one of the ladies a couple of times and been pissed on by the other, have worshipped both their feet – so on.
But this day was somewhat of something which gave me the bug and I spent most of the next couple of years doing similar film days and experiences.
The Shift
And then, 2019, I moved from (3) to (4)
I mean had the thought ever been in my head? Kinda. But I felt perhaps I was enjoying what I was doing for the best part and a lot I was unsure on how it would work and if anyone would be up for the idea.Honestly, yeah, there are a lot of Dommes unhappy about men in producer or creator roles. That is their boundary, and of course not one I would argue against or challenge.
“Tell me, there’s just one thing I really don’t understand,” I thought I was getting wrong. Perhaps it was the accent. But I was driven to a shoot in Romania and Goddess Ezada brought up the idea.To avoid rewriting the conversation, she felt that using my blog and a potential store to promote the Dommes would bring benefit to them, as well as of course, yes. Being something that at the worst would pay towards my costs of being in shoots.
I thought about it pretty much for a year. Though, again, going back to a previous point, I spent a lot of this time researching.
December 2018, a daft throwaway comment actually meant a lot.I was out with some friends and a Domme friend basically said that one of the guys in the group was celebrating as he’d had his first $1000 month in clip sales.I was obviously also quite congratulatory.”Mind”, she said, “In the previous 18 months he made $1000 total. Only really the past few months there were bigger takes”
The reality this gave me was that I shouldn’t take anything for granted and it may take time to make money.
Here Comes the Money
I actually see a lot of people leave the industry when they don’t begin straight away with big earning months.Mind, I also from time to time see people who appear and DO start with big earning months and they often jump to a lot of conclusions about others, they’re also the least prepared when there’s a dip.
And yeah. I was a slow burner at first.
Though this year. It started with my best ever month. 5 out of 6 months after that have exceeded that total. What this does mean I need to be mindful of is to make sure to keep money to one side cos, err, tax.Which does catch a lot of people out. Whether folk get into content for fun, pocket money, top up income or a career there are tax liabilities.I’m sometimes unsure if people just genuinely don’t know. Didn’t think they’d be caught. Or underestimate the bill.
I know some folk also get caught out if they are claiming benefits and it can adjust what they’re entitled to.While you wouldn’t be worse off. Just not necessarily as better off as expected.
With that in mind. It is often why I am very grateful people will work with me. That they see I can bring value to things they make and/or benefits in working with meAt a recent shoot there were some discussions about filming. One person had said it wasn’t a priority, they make far more through in-person. That effectively losing a day booking to film was a risk, but in her case she wanted content so a lot could tick over, especially important if there was a period where she couldn’t do in-person again.Likewise, many femme performers (over 60%) only work solo, and it is all round more cost-effective to work solo, producing solo content.
So I am always grateful when someone has taken time out to do stuff with me. Especially as I do have a reputation enough that people will work on a collaborative basis.
This is some of the respect that I think a lot of the guys who wish to slide into the industry sometimes lack.
But anyway. The day after my 10th anniversary I did have a shoot, and for some interesting stats – it passed the 750th clip I am in under any capacity! (It has actually been more, cos some early scenes are missing from my sheet, particularly some which were BG or me in a Dominant role) and also the 96th different Domme I’ve worked with.Given I’ve a shoot coming up with a number 97, a question on when the magic 100 will be realised.
The Future
So, what of the next 10 years…?
I still hope to be doing this and of course I have ambitions.  One of my main frustrations is a lack of spaces locally to shoot in, and yep, perhaps there would be long-term benefit with a proper central location which could be used. Whether I run with this to help others, or as part of a collaboration. We will, well, see what the future holds. It’s not a priority. Maybe that’s easier in 20 years… who knows.
